Surely everyone thinks of "family." A hectic 4 days of families depicted based on true events.
Riko, a writer, suddenly receives word from the police of her older brother's sudden death.
While heading to the Tohoku region where her brother lived, Riko recalls bitter memories with her brother.
At the police station, after 7 years, she reunites with her brother's ex-wife Kanako, her niece Marina, and Ryoichi, who is temporarily in protective custody at a child welfare facility. They cremate her brother.
Then, the three of them who were cleaning up the apartment—which had become a hoarder's home where her brother's family lived—see numerous family photos pasted on the wall. One with child-aged Riko and her brother, one the family made together: brother, Kanako, Marina, and Ryoichi.
While continuing to speak ill of her brother as she handles his affairs, Kanako, who should have been similarly troubled by him, quietly says: "Maybe there's a side of that person that you don't know about, Riko."
Touching upon facts unknown to her brother, becoming angry, laughing, and crying a little—reconsidering family once more—a hectic 4 days for these 4 people begins.
